This year's roster includes a diverse array of photographers, with home bases spanning the globe. We were thrilled to see the number of individuals who made the leap into wedding photography as a second career as well as several young photographers with keen visions who were able to jump right in—and stay afloat—in this competitive industry. Furthermore, we took the work of photographers capturing the nuptials of same-sex couples as a hopeful sign of the changing times.
While we continued to see trends of soft, natural light, vintage tones and lens flare in several of the portfolios this year, we were excited by the way many photographers used unique compositions to highlight their subjects, and captured comedic and ironic juxtapositions in their images. And while we noticed rich, vibrant color this year, we also saw several photographers incorporating film into their business model.
This year’s judging panel includes Rangefinder's editors: Jacqueline Tobin, editor-in-chief; Jessica Gordon, managing editor; and Lindsay Comstock, senior editor, who were joined by Jason Groupp, WPPI director of education and membership.
